I would like to pass on my thanks and congratulations Dorset PFI Manager and his team for following through and addressing a complaint concerning a street light on Allberry Gardens in Preston. It is the first time in at least two years that someone has actually looked at the problem and followed through with an improvement. Thanks SSE for excellent service.

'Softer whiter light is alot less intrusive'

I live in Alderholt, where you have been changing our street lighting over the last few weeks. I have to say I think the new lighting is a great improvement. The softer whiter light is alot less intrusive. Your doing a great job.

Just wanted to say many thanks for fitting the cowl over the new lampost opposite my house in Jessopp Road. It has made a real difference and I am no longer kept awake by it at night. I was surprised how quickly it was done and I am very grateful.

Happy with the improvement

Thank you for fitting the shield to the street light. It has made a huge difference and I am most happy with the improvement, the light is now not shining into the house. Thank you too for dealing with this promptly.

'It's brilliant'

Thank you for dealing with my complaint. The light setting was checked and a shield was fittted, its 'brilliant'. I am now extremely happy and the new lighting is very good!

What a HUGE difference!

I would just like to pass my thanks on to all your staff and sub contractors who have worked so hard in sometimes appalling weather conditions. I can honestly say I have rarely seen such tidy workers, I watched the grab workers removing the waste ground material and they swept up afterwards, I watched the reinstate tarmac crew who seemed most particular that their patching tarmac was perfect and tidy afterwards. The SEC staff were always on the go. What more can I say. The new street lights themselves, what a HUGE difference they are so much better, we actually sleep better as our bedroom is not illuminated like Blackpool illuminations by the old fashioned orange glow of the old style lighting. Also the road/pavements are now much improved with natural white light and directed downwards to the correct place, it has transformed the area all for the better. A big thankyou .

Keeping the lights on whilst energy usage is reduced

There was a buzz of excitement in the office when this Smartcar was delivered with people queuing up to take a test drive. The size of the car is a real benefit for both driver and other road users as it takes only half the road space of a normal car, parking is also easier, especially when used in heavily congested areas. Being environmentally aware, the Smart, having a C02 output of 119 g/km, meets our target for 2016 of having vehicles on fleet with an average C02 of 120 g/km. The Smart is a safe, alternative vehicle for driver, passenger and pedestrians as it has a Euro En-cap rating of 4. The car will be predominately used for letter drops and driving to site to mark out new column positions.

Recycling

Sustainability is one of SSE Contracting’s Core Values. As one of the largest street lighting contractors in the country striving to reduce the amount of waste generated in all areas of our business is a top priority. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) set a target of recycling 80% of all UK lamps containing mercury. SSE Contracting exceeds this target by ensuring 100% of all lamp products are recycled with no element going to landfill. SEC also recycles all electrical equipment which is outside the WEEE Directive and is in the process of identifying other waste streams that can be recycled to the same exacting standards. These include wood pallets which can be sent to chipping plants, packaging and plastics, and also concrete columns which can be crushed and used as building aggregate. Not only does SEC comply with Environmental Legislation that may affect the organisation, we also maintain commitment to continuous improvement in all our operations, to encourage a cleaner, safer, healthier world for all of us.
